Dr. Francisco Torres
I am a Board-Certified Psychiatrist who has been practicing Psychiatry since 2008. I was born in New York City, raised between Ecuador and Colombia where I completed my medical degree at Juan N. Corpas Medical School in Bogota.
In Colombia, I worked for five years as a General Practitioner until I decided to move back to the United States to pursue further training in Psychiatry.
By the year of 2004, life brought me back to New York City where I started my training in Psychiatry at Lincoln Hospital which is affiliated to the Weill Medical College of Cornell University. During my post at Lincoln Hospital, I earned recognition for my teachings in the Neuropsychiatry Seminar.
Living in New York gave me the opportunity to attend a Postgraduate Course in Clinical Neurosciences at Columbia University.
I completed Psychiatric Training at Harvard South Shore affiliated to Harvard Medical School in Boston where I eventually became Chief Resident.
After my training, I remained in Massachusetts gaining experience in Correctional and Forensic Psychiatry while appointed at Bridgewater State Hospital as an Attending Psychiatrist. After this post, I attended a Visiting Fellowship in Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation and ECT at Columbia University.
I arrived to Rio Grande Valley on February 2009 and started working in Valley Baptist Medical Center where I became Medical Director for Psychiatry Services and up to this date still holding clinical privileges at this institution.
In April of 2011, I became President and Chief Medical Officer for JNC Behavioral Services. I also serve as Medical Director for Palms Behavioral Hospital in Harlingen, Texas.
I enjoy medical education through my appointment as Assistant Clinical Professor at UTRGV Medical School where I help training medical students and psychiatry residents. I also serve as Clinical Professor to Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants.
